Utah

Overview

Utah encompasses over 22.8 million acres of BLM public lands plus 43 state parks, offering world-class dispersed and developed camping opportunities. As of late 2025, Utah state parks remain fully operational and open year-round, with camping reservations available on a rolling 4-month basis through ReserveAmerica. Due to recent federal government funding issues, there's been some impact on federal lands—BLM visitor centers may have limited staffing, and the agency recently proposed rescinding the Public Lands Rule (September 2025) to restore multiple-use management. National parks and monuments in Utah remain accessible, though services are limited during funding lapses, with the state committed to keeping them open. Fire restrictions vary by region and season—typically Stage 1 restrictions run June-September in southern Utah, with campfires only allowed in improved fire rings at many locations. Winter camping is available at select parks like Lincoln Beach (Utah County). Most state park facilities winterize flush restrooms and pull docks by early November. The public lands offer excellent dispersed camping on BLM land with minimal fees, though developed BLM campgrounds require payment. Always check current conditions at stateparks.utah.gov before heading out, as water levels, fire restrictions, and access can change rapidly in Utah's high desert environment.
