About

Timpooneke Campground is nestled high in the Wasatch Mountains along Utah's Alpine Loop Scenic Byway at 7,400 feet elevation. The campground lies within dense stands of aspen, fir, and spruce trees, with streams and riparian areas running through it. Adjacent to the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness, the area is known for abundant wildlife, summer wildflowers, and spectacular autumn foliage. The campground serves as the primary trailhead for the 15-mile round-trip Timpooneke Trail, which climbs to the summit of Mount Timpanogos. Horses are permitted on this trail. The rough dirt Timpooneke Road also originates here, nearly circumnavigating Mount Timpanogos and offering excellent mountain biking and birding opportunities. Nearby attractions include Timpanogos Cave National Monument, Cascade Springs with accessible boardwalks, and Tibble Fork Reservoir for fishing and non-motorized boating. The 20-mile paved Alpine Loop Scenic Byway passes through alpine canyons, mountain meadows, and offers breathtaking views of the Wasatch Range.
