About

Lake Canyon Recreation Area is a primitive, dispersed camping destination situated at approximately 9,000 feet elevation on the Wasatch Plateau between Huntington and Cleveland reservoirs, about 18 miles east of Fairview along Highway 31. The area features approximately 50 first-come, first-served single-family campsites spread throughout a broad mountain valley, plus five reservable group sites and four reservable double sites. This is a pack-in, pack-out location with vault toilets but no water, electricity, or garbage service. The area is renowned for its OHV opportunities, with the Lake Canyon Trail System offering many miles of trails including three beginner loops suitable for all skill levels. Huntington Reservoir provides excellent tiger and cutthroat trout fishing, while Cleveland Reservoir is known for rainbow trout. Both reservoirs are ideal for canoeing and kayaking, though boat ramps are not available. Nearby Electric Lake offers additional boating, water skiing, and fishing opportunities with a boat ramp. The landscape features stands of aspen and pine trees providing limited shade, with meadows filled with grasses, sagebrush, and summer wildflowers. The scenic peaks of the Wasatch Plateau surround the valley. The recreation area serves as a popular staging area for OHV enthusiasts and anglers, with mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking also available. Miller Flat Road connects the area to Joe's Valley Reservoir 21 miles south.

Directions

From Fairview, head east on Highway 31 for approximately 19 miles. The campground is 1/3 mile past Huntington Reservoir on the right side of the road, just south of Highway 31 on Miller Flat Road. From Huntington, head northwest on Highway 31 for approximately 29.5 miles. The campground is 1/2 mile past Cleveland Reservoir on the left side of the road.
