About
Lower Onion Creek Group Sites is a scenic BLM campground positioned along the Colorado River corridor on Highway 128, offering stunning views of red rock canyons, buttes, and mesas with the La Sal Mountains as a backdrop. The campground features three group sites designed for gatherings of 15-30 people, each equipped with shade shelters, picnic tables, fire grates, and access to vault toilets. A boat ramp within the campground makes this a popular launch point for Colorado River trips. The sites are primitive with no water, dump stations, or electrical hookups. Campers should bring their own water supply and be prepared to pack out trash. Parking at each site accommodates up to 10 vehicles with a maximum vehicle length of 40 feet, though Class A motorhomes are prohibited. The gravel driveways have slight grades. The surrounding area offers exceptional recreation including the Fisher Towers for hiking and rock climbing, numerous mountain biking trails, and four-wheel drive roads. Arches National Park is about 40 minutes away, and Canyonlands National Park is roughly an hour's drive. Be aware that a dry creek runs behind Group Site A with potential flash flood risk during storms.
