About

Equestrian Campground in the Pine Valley Recreation Area serves as a dedicated base camp for horse enthusiasts exploring Dixie National Forest. The campground features 19 sites including single family sites, double sites for larger groups, and tent-only options. Each reservable site includes corrals to accommodate horses, with one large four-way corral and several smaller units available. The setting among ponderosa pines, pinyon, and juniper at roughly 6,900 feet elevation provides scenic views of the Pine Valley Mountains and relief from the desert heat of nearby St. George. When operational, sites include picnic tables, fire pits with grills, and tent pads. Vault toilets serve the campground, with potable water available from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Campers must pack out all trash. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov, with sites reserved exclusively for horse campers until 6:00 PM daily; after that time, remaining sites may become available first-come, first-served. The typical operating season runs from early May through late September. The campground provides access to equestrian trails in the surrounding Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness area. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, and the maximum stay is 14 consecutive days. Campfires are permitted only in designated fire pits, and OHV/ATV use is prohibited within the recreation area.
