About
Warner Lake Campground is a high-elevation retreat at 9,400 feet in Utah's La Sal Mountains, surrounded by dense aspen forest that delivers spectacular fall color. The campground sits adjacent to Warner Lake, where anglers can fish for rainbow trout and paddlers can launch canoes and kayaks (no motorboats). Haystack Mountain at 11,634 feet provides a dramatic backdrop visible from several campsites. The campground features 19 individual sites plus a group area accommodating up to 50 people. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available but there is no potable water on-site, so campers must bring all drinking water. A small cabin sleeping four is also available nearby. An extensive trail system radiates from the campground area, including the Trans-Mountain Trail, Miners Basin Trail, Warner Lake-Oowah Lake Trail, Burro Pass Trail, and Dry Fork-Beaver Basin Trail. Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are accessible for day trips, though the drive from Moab takes about an hour due to mountainous gravel roads.
Directions
From Moab, drive south on US 191 for 7.8 miles and turn left onto Old Airport Road (signed for La Sal Loop Road). Turn right at the T-intersection onto Spanish Valley Drive/La Sal Mountain Loop Road. Continue 13.5 miles past the Oowah Lake turnoff to the Warner Lake sign. Turn right and follow the gravel road 5 miles to the campground. Road construction in San Juan County may require alternate access via River Road (Highway 128) or Sand Flats Road. Check current conditions before departure.
