About

Hideout Canyon Boat-In Campground offers a remote camping experience on beautiful Flaming Gorge Reservoir, 2 miles from the nearest road. This popular campground gets its name from a historic hiding spot used by Butch Cassidy and his gang. Access is exclusively by boat (most visitors launch from Sheep Creek Bay Boat Ramp) or by hiking in via the Hideout/Carter Creek Trailhead on Dowd Mountain off Forest Road 094. The campground contains 18 tent-only sites, each equipped with a cabana, picnic table, and campfire ring. Flush toilets and water hydrants are provided during the operating season, with vault toilets available for off-season use. The gravel trails from the boat docks to the campsites are steep and may change annually depending on reservoir water levels. Each site includes one boat slip; boats must not exceed 36 feet in length. Surrounded by scenic cliffs at 6,040 feet elevation, the campground is forested with pinyon pine and juniper offering limited shade. Most sites provide partial views of the reservoir. Boating, water skiing, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are popular activities right from your campsite. Lucerne Valley Marina is accessible by boat and offers gas, slips, fishing licenses, tackle, and groceries. Nearby attractions include Flaming Gorge Dam tours and rafting on the Green River below the dam.

Directions

From Manila, Utah: Take State Route 44 southeast for 7 miles. Turn northeast onto Forest Road 092 and continue to Sheep Creek Bay Boat Ramp. Once on the water, travel 2 miles southeast to reach the campground. Hikers can access via the Hideout/Carter Creek Trailhead on Dowd Mountain off Forest Road 094.
