About
Lower Meadows Campground is located on the banks of the South Fork Ogden River at an elevation of 5,300 feet in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, just 9 miles from Huntsville, Utah. This campground stands out as one of the most spacious in the South Fork complex, with individual sites quite far apart and tall, thick grass throughout. The scenic campground is situated among cottonwoods and willows, where moose and deer occasionally wander through.
Popular recreation activities include fishing in the South Fork Ogden River that flows alongside the campground, hiking, swimming, and tubing down the river (life jackets required for all tubers). Causey Reservoir, a scenic mountain lake offering great canoeing and fishing, is located four miles east. Pineview Reservoir is a short drive away with additional boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities. The beautiful Ogden Valley offers numerous opportunities for boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, off-road vehicle riding, and scenic drives. Highway 39 continues to Monte Cristo Summit with sweeping mountain views, and ATV and hiking trails are abundant in the area.
The campground is accessed from the same entrance as Upper Meadows but continues across the bridge to reach the sites on the far side of the river from Highway 39. Gates are locked at 10:00 pm with quiet hours from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. The campground is operated seasonally by a concessionaire and reservations are available through Recreation.gov.
Directions
From Ogden, travel east on 12th Street through Ogden Canyon. Continue on Highway 39 toward Monte Cristo. The campground is approximately 7-9 miles east of Huntsville. The entrance is the same as Upper Meadows, but instead of turning left, stay on the road, cross the bridge, and turn right at the top of the hill.
