About

Escalante Petrified Forest State Park sits 1.5 miles west of the town of Escalante on Utah Highway 12, offering camping on the shores of Wide Hollow Reservoir. The campground has 52 sites across multiple loops, including tent-only sites, standard dry camping, partial hookups with water and electric, and full hookups with sewer. Sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 78 feet, with both pull-through and back-in configurations available. The park combines water recreation with geology, featuring a petrified forest with mineralized wood dating back millions of years. Trails wind through colorful petrified wood deposits and offer scenic views of the surrounding landscape. The reservoir supports fishing, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding, with boat launch and equipment rentals available. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and grate. Modern facilities include ADA-accessible restrooms, hot showers, drinking water stations, and a dump station. A visitor center provides interpretive programs about the area's natural history.
