Escalante Petrified Forest State Park

Located at Wide Hollow Reservoir just two miles northwest of Escalante on Scenic Byway 12, this campground serves as an excellent base for exploring southern Utah. The campground is divided into multiple loops: Loop A offers standard sites and partial hookup sites with water and electricity, while Wide Hollow Loops B and C provide full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer. Loop B also includes tent sites with electricity and nearby water. The campground features 22 single campsites plus one accessible site designed for visitors with disabilities. The park's signature petrified forest trail begins right from the campground, allowing hikers to explore fossilized trees and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding plateaus. Wide Hollow Reservoir offers opportunities for boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming during warmer months. The park is open year-round, though showers close seasonally from mid-November to mid-March. Sites range from 65+ feet in length, accommodating large RVs and trailers. The campground includes a group site accommodating up to 50 people with a pavilion featuring 20-amp outlets and water. The park has no entrance gate, with self-service check-in available. Wide Hollow Campground does not allow generators, as many sites provide electrical hookups. A separate dump station is available for a fee.
