About
Altamont Group Campground sits at 7,400 feet elevation along the scenic Alpine Loop Byway in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Set among dense stands of aspen, fir, and spruce trees adjacent to the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness, the campground offers a prime location for groups seeking mountain recreation. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant, with autumn bringing spectacular fall colors.
The campground consists of a single group site with capacity for 100 people. Facilities include a large picnic shelter containing multiple picnic tables and a campfire circle, accessible flush toilets, and potable water. The access road and parking area are paved. Note that Highway 92 has a 30-foot vehicle length restriction that applies to this campground.
Popular activities include hiking the Timpooneke Trail to Mount Timpanogos summit (15 miles round-trip), which begins across the road at Timpooneke Campground. The dirt Timpooneke Road offers mountain biking and birding opportunities. The 20-mile Alpine Loop Scenic Byway provides stunning views of the Wasatch Range through alpine canyons, meadows, and forests.
