Lower Provo River Campground is a small, intimate campground located just off the scenic Mirror Lake Scenic Byway in the Uinta Mountains of northeastern Utah. Situated at an elevation of 7,400 feet, the campground features 10 single campsites nestled among dense stands of pines and aspens that provide ample shade during summer and stunning fall color displays.
The campground sits near the Lower Provo River, which offers good trout fishing opportunities. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, and vault restrooms are available. The area is rich with recreational opportunities, including numerous hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails that crisscross the beautiful Uinta Mountains. Notable trails include North Fork and Shingle Creek Trails, with off-road vehicle trails available in the vicinity, though ATVs are prohibited within the campground itself.
The campground enforces a 7-day stay limit and has a maximum occupancy of 8 people per site. Gates open at 7am and close at 10pm, with quiet hours from 10pm to 6am. There is a 2-night minimum stay on weekends and a 3-night minimum on holiday weekends. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov and must be made at least 5 days in advance.
Directions
In Kamas, UT, at the intersection of State Rt. 32 (Main St.) and State Rt. 150 (Center St.), take Rt. 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) east 10.6 miles to Lower Provo sign. Turn right at the sign and go 0.7 miles to the campground.
