About

Rock Creek Guard Station is a historic Forest Service cabin converted to a rental facility, situated below Upper Stillwater Dam in the Rock Creek drainage on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains. At an elevation of 7,945 feet, the cabin is surrounded by Ponderosa Pine, Lodgepole Pine, and Aspen trees, with summer wildflowers and vibrant fall colors. The cabin provides a comfortable base for exploring the High Uintas Wilderness. The Upper Stillwater Trailhead is just 0.6 miles up the road, offering access to hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, and backcountry fishing. Upper Stillwater Reservoir, 0.8 miles away, holds rainbow, brown, and brook trout and is accessible only to hand-carried watercraft. Rock Creek itself offers additional trout fishing opportunities. The fully equipped cabin sleeps up to 8 guests with two bunkbeds, one queen bed, and a sleeper couch. Guests must bring their own linens, bedding, and pillows. Amenities include a flush toilet, bathtub/shower, running water, electric heat, electric lights, wood stove, full kitchen with stovetop, oven, refrigerator, and microwave. Parking accommodates up to three vehicles. Guests must call the District Office at least three days before arrival to obtain the lock combination.
