About

Rock Creek Guard Station serves as one of the premier gateways into the High Uintas Wilderness on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains. The cabin is situated at 7,945 feet elevation below the Upper Stillwater Dam, surrounded by a mixed forest of Ponderosa Pine, Lodgepole Pine, and Aspen trees that provide excellent shade and seasonal wildflower displays. The renovated cabin accommodates up to 8 overnight guests with 2 bunkbeds, one queen bed, and a sleeper couch. Modern amenities include a flush toilet, bathtub/shower, running water, full kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator and microwave, plus both electric heat and a wood stove for ambiance. A phone on the front of the cabin allows free local calls. The cabin provides level parking for up to three vehicles, though no tent or RV camping is permitted on site. Recreational opportunities abound in this scenic region. The Upper Stillwater Trailhead is just 0.6 miles up the road, providing access to the High Uintas Wilderness for hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and backcountry fishing. Upper Stillwater Reservoir, located 0.8 miles from the cabin, spans 1.3 miles and offers fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout (accessible only to hand-carried watercraft). Rock Creek itself provides excellent rainbow and brook trout fishing opportunities right from the cabin area.
