About
Boy Scout Campground sits in South Willow Canyon at an elevation of 6,320 feet within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, near the boundary of the Deseret Peak Wilderness. The remote desert canyon is forested with oak, maple, and juniper trees providing partial shade, with Willow Creek flowing through the site. The campground offers 7 single sites, 1 double site, and 1 group site accommodating up to 35 people. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad. Vault toilets are available but there is no water system, so campers must bring all their own potable water. This is bear country and proper food storage is required. The Stansbury Front Trail and Medina Flat Trail begin across the road from the campground entrance, offering access into the rugged Deseret Peak Wilderness. Willow Creek provides fishing opportunities for rainbow and brown trout. The gravel access road is not recommended for trailers due to its narrow, steep conditions with potholes.
Directions
From Salt Lake City, head west on I-80 for 36 miles. Take the Stansbury-Tooele/Route 35 exit and travel south 3 miles to Route 138 West. Follow it 10 miles to Grantsville. Go through Grantsville to Cooley Street and turn south; go 5 miles to the South Willow Canyon turnoff. Boy Scout Campground is 1.7 miles from the forest boundary on a gravel road.
