About
Mammoth Cabin is part of the historic Mammoth Guard Station in the Spanish Fork-Scofield Recreation Area of the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Built in the 1930s, it originally served as a forest ranger and fire crew dwelling. The cabin sits at 8,600 feet elevation, overlooking sagebrush valleys with timbered slopes and ridgelines in a spruce, fir, and aspen forest setting. The cabin accommodates up to 4 guests with two sets of bunk beds and mattresses. Amenities include a bathroom with flush toilet and shower, a kitchen with sink and stove, and a wood-burning stove for heat. Solar power provides limited electricity for lights and phone charging only. There is no cell service or refrigeration available. Guests must obtain a key code from the ranger district at least 3 days before arrival. Gooseberry Reservoir lies approximately 1.5 miles north, offering shore fishing and non-motorized boating. The Arapeen OHV trail system is accessible within a few miles. The grounds remain an active Forest Service administrative site, so visitors may encounter agency personnel.
