East Fork Yurt

Open — The yurt operates primarily during winter months when accessible by ski or snowshoe. Reservations are required through the Bear River Outdoor Recreation Alliance and typically open in late October.

About

The East Fork Yurt sits at 8,680 feet elevation on a bench overlooking a large flat meadow and the East Fork of the Bear River drainage below Dead Man's Pass. This backcountry yurt provides a unique winter camping experience in the Uinta Mountains, accessible via a 1.5-mile trail that gains approximately 294 feet in elevation. The trail can be hiked, skied, or snowshoed depending on conditions, and gear can be transported using a sled. The yurt accommodates up to 8 people and features a wood stove for heating, along with basic amenities for overnight stays. From the deck, visitors enjoy panoramic views of Mount Beulah and the surrounding high country. The location provides access to backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and winter recreation opportunities in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Managed by the Bear River Outdoor Recreation Alliance (BRORA), a non-profit organization, the yurt operates primarily during winter months when the area is snow-covered. Reservations are required and typically become available through a system that opens in late October or early November. The yurt is part of BRORA's network of five backcountry yurts in the Lily Lake area of the Uintas.

Directions

From the Lily Lake Ski Area trailhead, the East Fork Yurt is accessible via a 2-mile non-motorized trail along the East Fork Bench. The trail is relatively easy, suitable for hauling extra supplies.
