About
Old Folks Flat Campground is nestled in beautiful Huntington Canyon along the Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byway on Utah Highway 31, sitting at an elevation of 8,600 feet in the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This campground is primarily devoted to group camping with five group sites that can accommodate 20, 50, or 60 people with multiple vehicles in adjacent parking areas. Eight single-family campsites are also available for smaller parties. Large spruce trees and aspens cover the campground, providing partial shade throughout the day. The facility has been recently upgraded with flush toilets and drinking water spigots. All sites are equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Roads and parking spurs within the campground are gravel, but the campground is accessible by paved highway with all types of passenger vehicles. Electricity and garbage collection service are not available, so campers must pack out all trash. The canyon area features numerous lakes and streams, vibrant summer wildflowers, colorful fall foliage, and abundant wildlife. Huntington Creek, located just across Highway 31, is a Blue Ribbon fishery offering high-quality fishing for brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout. Popular activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and scenic driving. The 6-mile Left Fork of the Huntington National Recreation Trail passes through the campground with trailheads about a mile away in either direction, leading north towards Engineer Canyon or south to Stuart Guard Station Interpretive Site. The 10-mile Fish Creek Trail for hiking, biking, and horseback riding is also nearby. The historic Stuart Guard Station Visitor Center offers a glimpse of 1930s ranger life and displays of Civilian Conservation Corps projects.
Directions
From Huntington, Utah head northwest on Highway 31 for approximately 20.5 miles. The campground is 1 mile past Stuart Guard Station on the right side of the road.
