Closure of Fishing on Concrete Boat Ramps withing Flaming Gorge Reservoir
Ashley National Forest Order 050115A1 regarding: Closure of Fishing from Concrete Boat Ramps on Flaming Gorge Reservoir
About
Hideout Canyon Boat-In Campground is located on the scenic shores of Flaming Gorge Reservoir within Ashley National Forest. The campground takes its name from a hiding spot used by the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch gang. Access is exclusively by boat or via a 2-mile hike from the Hideout/Carter Creek Trailhead on Dowd Mountain. The campground contains 18 single-family tent sites at an elevation of 6,040 feet. Each site features a cabana for shade, a picnic table, and a campfire ring. Flush toilets and potable water hydrants are provided during the operating season, with a vault toilet available for off-season use. The water is low-flow spring-fed, so conservation is encouraged. Boating, water skiing, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are popular activities directly from the campground. The landscape is forested with pinyon pine and juniper, offering limited natural shade. Most visitors arrive via the Sheep Creek Bay Boat Ramp, located about 2 miles northwest by water. Boats are limited to 36 feet maximum length, with one boat per slip allowed.
Directions
From Manila, Utah: Take State Route 44 southeast for 7 miles. Turn northeast onto Forest Road 092 and continue to Sheep Creek Bay Boat Ramp. Once on the water, travel 2 miles southeast to reach the campground. Hikers can access via the Hideout/Carter Creek Trailhead on Dowd Mountain off Forest Road 094.
