About
Located in Blacksmith Fork Canyon about 9 miles east of Hyrum, Shenoah Picnic Area occupies a scenic setting along the banks of the Blacksmith Fork River at 5,600 feet elevation. The picnic area is surrounded by rugged hills and shaded by black willow and box elder trees, creating a peaceful riverside retreat in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
The facility features a group picnic area consisting of 9 individual picnic sites with a central group campfire ring. This group site can be reserved for overnight camping and accommodates 1-50 people. When the group site is not reserved, the individual picnic sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis for day use until noon. The area is operated by a concessionaire during the open season and offers vault restroom facilities. Gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. daily.
Recreation opportunities abound in the surrounding area. Visitors enjoy fishing in the Blacksmith Fork River, hiking area trails, and exploring off-road trails accessible from the canyon. Mountain bikers can follow Forest Road 245 to connect with the Great Western Trail, a popular multi-use trail near the Blacksmith Fork Guard Station. The canyon roads provide scenic driving with opportunities for wildlife viewing throughout the area.
