About

Big Springs Recreation Site is a designated dispersed camping area located in Oak Creek Canyon on the Fishlake National Forest, approximately 5 miles east of Oak City, Utah. The site features four established camping spots (three on the north side of the road, one on the south) equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, plus a vault toilet. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own. The area is best suited for tent camping and day use, as the narrow road does not accommodate trailers well. Each site is limited to 2 vehicles, and parking is restricted to designated areas to protect vegetation. Oak Creek runs adjacent to the site and offers put-and-take fishing with catchable trout stocked by Utah Division of Wildlife Resources during summer. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, turkey, and bighorn sheep. The recreation site is free to use on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. OHVs are permitted only for accessing the adjacent trail system. Campers should bring their own firewood, follow Leave No Trace principles, pack out all trash, and store food in bear-proof containers. The 16-day stay limit applies, after which campers must relocate at least 5 road miles away.

From Oak City, turn east on Center Street for 0.2 miles. Center Street will turn right and become 200E. After 0.1 miles, turn left onto Oak Creek Canyon Road (FR089) and travel 4.7 miles.
