About

Sand River Camp is a remote, primitive campsite situated on the north bank of the Green River within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Located 8.3 miles below Flaming Gorge Dam and 1.1 miles downstream from Little Hole, the site offers a secluded riverside experience at an elevation of 5,525 feet with natural shade. The single campsite accommodates 8-10 people and features three tent pads that can fit 4-5 tents, one picnic table, one fire ring, and two benches. There are no toilet facilities or potable water on site. All campers are required to bring a portable toilet system and pack out all waste. Access is exclusively by non-motorized means: hiking the trail from Little Hole or floating downstream by raft, kayak, or drift boat from Spillway Boat Ramp or Little Hole. The camp operates first-come, first-served with mandatory same-day registration at the Camp Registration Board at Little Hole.

Directions

Access by hiking from Little Hole or boating from Spillway Boat Ramp or Little Hole. The site is 8.3 miles below Flaming Gorge Dam and 1.1 miles below Little Hole on the north bank of the Green River. To reach Little Hole by vehicle from Rock Springs, WY: Take I-80 west to US-191 south for approximately 52 miles, then turn west onto Forest Road 145 and travel 4 miles.
