About
Sand River Camp is a primitive riverside camping site situated on the north bank of the Green River, 8.3 miles below Flaming Gorge Dam and 1.1 miles downstream from Little Hole in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. This boat-in or hike-in campsite offers a remote wilderness experience along one of America's premier trout fishing rivers. The site provides basic amenities including one picnic table, one fire ring, three tent pads with capacity for four to five tents, a portable toilet screen, and two benches. Natural shade is provided by the surrounding vegetation of Ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, juniper, sagebrush, and riparian shrubs and grasses. The campsite sits at an elevation of 5,525 feet in a scenic canyon setting. Campers must register the day of use at Little Hole on the Camp Registration Board and are required to bring a portable toilet system. No garbage facilities are provided, so all trash must be packed out. The site is available first-come, first-served and is popular with anglers, rafters, and wilderness seekers exploring the Green River's famous Section B waters.
