About
Deer Run Campground is located in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area on the Ashley National Forest at an elevation of 6,200 feet. Flaming Gorge Reservoir lies less than a mile below the campground, with Cedar Springs Marina immediately adjacent. The campground is situated among juniper, pinyon pine, and sagebrush, with limited shade and no direct reservoir views. A resident deer herd gives the site its name. The campground offers 18 campsites in a single loop, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Facilities include flush toilets, showers, and seasonal potable water (mid-May through mid-September). An on-site dump station is available for a fee. No hookups are provided. Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is renowned for world-class fishing for lake, brown, and rainbow trout. Popular activities include boating, water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, swimming, and scuba diving. The nearby Bear Canyon Trail offers an easy 3-mile round-trip hike with views of Red Canyon and Flaming Gorge. Flaming Gorge Dam provides guided tours of the hydroelectric plant, and the Green River below the dam offers spectacular rafting with unique geology and Native American rock art.
