Soapstone Campground is situated along the scenic Mirror Lake Highway (Highway 150) in the Uinta Mountains of northeastern Utah at an elevation of 8,200 feet. The campground is nestled in a dense forest of pine, fir, and aspen trees, which provide ample shade during summer months and stunning fall colors. The Lower Provo River flows directly alongside the campground, bordered by thickets of willows and offering quality trout fishing opportunities. The campground serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the surrounding recreational opportunities. Soapstone Basin is nearby, featuring miles of exciting off-road vehicle trails suitable for riders of all skill levels. The area offers abundant hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails throughout the region. The Mirror Lake Scenic Byway itself provides access to countless high alpine lakes and streams, the High Uintas Wilderness, and breathtaking scenic viewpoints. Operated by a concessionaire, the campground offers developed campsites with picnic tables and vault toilets. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own. A Mirror Lake Highway recreation pass is required for all vehicles using the byway, separate from camping fees.

Directions

In Kamas, at the intersection of State Route 32 and State Route 150, take Route 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) east for 16 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground.
