About

William's Bottom Campground is located along State Route 279, also known as Potash Road, named after John "Doc" Williams, Moab's first community medical doctor who established his residence in this area around the turn of the 19th century. Today this 18-site BLM campground sits 9.6 miles northwest of Moab, surrounded by the dramatic red sandstone walls of the Colorado River Canyon. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with sites that can accommodate smaller RVs up to 24 feet in length. Each campsite includes a parking pad for two vehicles, picnic table, fire ring, and access to vault toilets and trash receptacles. Cottonwood trees and native vegetation provide some shade and shelter. During spring and fall, campground hosts are stationed on-site to assist visitors. The location offers exceptional access to numerous recreational opportunities. The Wall Street climbing area features routes of varying difficulty on vertical Navajo Sandstone walls. The Poison Spider Mesa Trailhead provides access for four-wheel driving, mountain biking, and hiking. Ancient petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks can be viewed from pullouts along the road, and the Corona Arch hiking trail leads to a popular natural arch. Be prepared for temperatures below freezing from October to March and above 100 degrees from June to August.

Directions

From the center of Moab at Center and Main, head north on Highway 191 to State Route 279 just south of the Arches National Park entrance. Turn west onto State Route 279 and drive 5.5 miles. The campground is on the right.
