Dead Horse Point State Park

Open — Open year-round with seasonal campground closures. Kayenta Campground is closed after December 1st and reopens around mid-February. Wingate hike-in tent sites are closed December through mid-February. Wingate RV sites remain open year-round. Park gates open 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

Dead Horse Point State Park sits on a towering mesa 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, offering some of Utah's most spectacular canyon views. The park operates two distinct campgrounds: Kayenta Campground with 21 sites nestled in a juniper grove, and Wingate Campground with 31 sites including 11 hike-in tent-only sites. All RV sites feature electric hookups supporting 20/30/50 AMP service and can accommodate vehicles up to 56 feet. Each site includes lighted shade structures, picnic tables, fire rings, and tent pads, with modern restroom facilities including dishwashing sinks. The park's extensive trail system provides direct access from campgrounds to the West and East Rim trails, offering jaw-dropping overlooks of canyons, high desert woodland, and distant mountain ranges. Additional amenities include yurt rentals, a visitor center with a gift shop and cafe, bike rentals and guiding services, and exceptional dark sky viewing opportunities. Due to the mesa's low water table, the park trucks in water daily, so RV water fillups are not available on-site. Campers should plan to fill tanks in nearby Moab before arrival.

Directions

From Moab, head north on US-191 for approximately 10 miles. Turn left onto UT-313 and follow signs toward Dead Horse Point State Park for about 23 miles. At the junction, turn left to stay on UT-313 (straight goes to Canyonlands National Park). The park entrance station is at mile 30. Continue past the visitor center and turn right for Kayenta Campground or continue straight for Wingate Campground.
