About
Equestrian Campground is a specialized BLM facility located along the San Rafael River at the southern end of Buckhorn Draw in the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area. Built by equestrians for equestrians, this campground caters specifically to horse camping and trail riding enthusiasts exploring this stunning desert landscape. The campground features six campsites with pullouts designed to accommodate both vehicles and horse trailers. A central holding pen with multiple corrals provides secure space for horses during your stay. The facility sits just a few hundred yards downstream from the San Rafael Swinging Bridge Campground, providing access to backcountry riding opportunities in the Northern San Rafael Swell. The San Rafael Swell offers diverse terrain for equestrian exploration, from canyon country to desert washes. County roads in the area are generally well-maintained, though conditions can deteriorate during wet weather. The desert environment experiences temperature extremes, with hot summers exceeding 100 degrees and cold winters, making spring and fall ideal seasons for horse camping.
