About
Gooseberry Admin Site Cabins is a historic group rental facility located 18 miles from Salina, Utah in the Fishlake National Forest. These structures served as Forest Service summer headquarters from 1907 to 1960 and are now preserved for group use. The site sits at approximately 8,000 feet elevation in the Gooseberry drainage, surrounded by dense aspen forests. The facility includes three bunk cabins with 50 single beds and mattresses (one cabin has propane heating), a large recreation hall with fireplace, tables and chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen with propane cooking range, oven, three refrigerators, sinks with hot water, and outdoor grills. A bathhouse provides flush toilets, sinks, and hot showers. A small amphitheater with a fire circle is available for evening gatherings. Guests must bring their own linens, bedding, dishes, utensils, and cookware. A propane generator provides limited electricity during evening and morning hours. Popular activities in the area include fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and wildlife watching. The Great Western Trail runs nearby with two easily accessible trailheads.
Directions
From Salina, Utah, take I-70 east approximately 7 miles to Exit 63 (Gooseberry Road). Turn south on County Road 640 and continue for 10 miles. The site is on the right side of the road, just beyond Gooseberry Campground.
