About

Gooseberry Administrative Site Cabins preserve a piece of Forest Service history as the former summer headquarters from 1907 to 1960. Today, this unique facility offers group accommodations in a scenic mountain setting just 18 miles from Salina, Utah. The complex features 3 bunk cabins providing 50 single beds, a spacious recreation hall with tables and chairs, and a well-equipped kitchen with a large propane cooking range with oven, three small propane refrigerators, sinks with hot water, and preparation tables. The bathroom facility provides modern conveniences including flush toilets, sinks, and warm showers. A propane generator supplies electric power for a few hours in the morning and evening. Guests will find several picnic tables near the kitchen and a small amphitheater with fire circle where firewood is provided. The site can accommodate up to 250 people, making it ideal for family reunions, church and scout groups, and youth camps. Situated in the Gooseberry drainage at approximately 8,000 feet elevation, the cabins are surrounded by dense aspen groves that provide shade in summer and spectacular color in fall. The Great Western Trail runs nearby with easily accessible trailheads, and popular activities include off-highway vehicle riding, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife watching. The remote location offers no telephone or emergency services except in Salina and Richfield, so visitors should come prepared with bedding, cooking gear, utensils, toiletries, first aid kits, and extra warm clothing for high elevation conditions.
