About

Whiting Campground is nestled at 5,400 feet elevation in Maple Canyon, just 3 miles east of Mapleton, Utah. The campground is enveloped in a dense, shady grove of maple and cottonwood trees that provide pleasant shade in summer and spectacular fall color. A perennial creek runs along the campground, adding to the peaceful setting. Summer wildflowers are plentiful throughout the area. The campground features 18 single sites, 8 double sites, 3 equestrian sites with hitching racks, and 2 group sites. Group Site A accommodates up to 200 people while Group Site B holds up to 100 people. All sites have picnic tables, campfire rings, and cement pads. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, though campers should arrive with water tanks filled as hookups to spigots are prohibited. Maple Canyon Trail begins near the campground and leads to a network of trails popular for hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking, and horseback riding. The trails offer scenic views of the surrounding mountains and canyons. The campground is particularly popular with equestrians, though horses and off-road vehicles must be parked in a designated area about a mile from the campground. Wildlife viewing opportunities are excellent throughout the area.

Directions

From I-15, take Springville exit 260. Head east 2 miles to the intersection of Main Street and 400 South. Turn right on Main Street, staying in the right lane toward Highway 89/Price. Continue 2.3 miles to Maple Street. Turn left on Maple Street/State Highway 147 for 0.9 miles to Main Street in Mapleton. Turn left on Main Street, then right on 400 North. Drive east on 400 North for 2.7 miles to the campground.
