About

Ledgefork Guard Station offers a unique opportunity to stay in a historic Forest Service cabin while supporting the maintenance and preservation of these cultural resources. Located just above Smith and Morehouse Reservoir on the western edge of the Uinta Mountains, the cabin accommodates up to 8 guests with one bedroom featuring queen beds, a fully equipped kitchen, and modern amenities including running water, flush toilets, a shower, and electricity provided by generator. The cabin is surrounded by scenic conifer and aspen forests where moose and deer are commonly spotted. Guests have access to excellent outdoor recreation including fishing for stocked rainbow trout at Smith and Morehouse Reservoir, wakeless boating and kayaking, and hiking the 12-mile round-trip Smith and Morehouse Trail that leads through forests, meadows, and marsh to Erickson Basin and Island Lake. The nearby Mirror Lake Scenic Byway provides access to numerous High Uinta Wilderness trailheads. Guests must check in with the camp host at Smith and Morehouse Campground to receive the lock combination. Reservations are required at least 5 days in advance. Guests should bring their own linens, dishes, silverware, cups, and drinking water. No pets are allowed to help preserve this historic structure. The facility operates seasonally and requires proper food storage in bear country.
