About
Tinney Flat Campground is nestled in scenic Santaquin Canyon within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, approximately 9 miles from the town of Santaquin at an elevation of 7,000 feet. The campground occupies a dense grove of cottonwood trees that provide excellent shade and vibrant fall color, with tall evergreens dotting the surrounding landscape. Santaquin Creek runs alongside the campground, providing rainbow trout fishing opportunities. Two trails originate within the campground: White Pine Hollow Trail and Calkens Hollow Trail, offering access to the adjacent Mount Nebo Wilderness. The campground sits just off the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway, which stretches 37 miles through alpine terrain and passes Devil's Kitchen Geological Area. The campground contains 16 sites total: 11 single sites (8-person capacity), 2 double sites (16-person capacity), and 3 group sites (50-person capacity each). Roads and parking spurs are paved. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, though water availability may be limited. The access road through Santaquin Canyon is paved but steep and narrow, making the campground unsuitable for large RVs or trailers.
Directions
From I-15, take Santaquin exit 244, go east under the freeway and turn south. Follow the road into Santaquin Canyon (Forest Road 14) for 6.5 miles to the campground. The road is paved but steep and narrow. Alternatively, from the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway, take the Santaquin Canyon turnoff and follow the dirt road west approximately 7 miles.
