Castle Rock Recreation Site occupies a striking location in Clear Creek Canyon where Joe Lott Creek flows beneath weathered volcanic cliffs of the Sevier River Formation. The campground road ends in a large loop with campsites on the west side positioned directly beneath the castle-like rock formations that give the area its name. The geology here reflects the Marysvale volcanic field's intense activity between 27 and 19 million years ago. The campground is operated by Fremont Indian State Park under a USFS permit and offers 31 primitive campsites suitable for tents and RVs up to 40-45 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Flush restrooms and vault toilets are available, along with drinking water from a hand pump when seasonal systems are operational. Two teepee rentals provide an alternative lodging option. ATV enthusiasts will find direct trail access from the northwest corner of the campground connecting to the Paiute ATV 01 trail in Dry Canyon, with routes extending south to Big Johns Flat and Circleville (accessible late July through early October due to high-elevation snow) or north to the Pahvant Range and Fillmore. ATVs are permitted in the campground but restricted to designated routes only. The Joe Lott Trailhead at the campground's south end provides hiking access.

Directions

From Richfield, Utah, travel south on Main Street approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right onto 1300 S and continue west for 1.1 miles. Turn left onto I-70 southbound and travel approximately 20 miles. Take Exit 17, turn left passing over I-70 onto FR478. Continue 1.5 miles to the campground.
