About
Currant Creek Guard Station is a historic Forest Service duplex cabin situated at 8,000 feet elevation adjacent to the scenic Currant Creek Reservoir in Utah's Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The cabin is divided into two separate units, each with its own private entrance, fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, living area, bathroom with flush toilet and shower, and propane heating. Unit A has one bedroom with a queen bed, while Unit B offers two bedrooms with a queen and bunk beds. Each unit accommodates up to 8 guests.
The facility also includes 4 full-hookup RV pads available for an additional fee. Guests must bring their own linens, dishes, and utensils. Note that water availability may be limited; guests should confirm current conditions and consider bringing water. The cabin is located in bear country, so proper food storage is required.
The area offers excellent recreation opportunities including fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout on the reservoir, canoeing, kayaking, and boating. Numerous horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking trails traverse the surrounding landscape, including a scenic loop around the reservoir. Wildlife such as deer and elk are frequently spotted, and summer wildflowers blanket the area among aspen, fir, and lodgepole pine forests.
Directions
From Heber City, Utah, take Highway 40 east for 45 miles to the Currant Creek Junction. Turn off the highway and travel northwest approximately 17 miles to the facility. The road from the highway is paved for 10 miles and graded gravel for 7 miles. Stay on the most traveled road, keeping to the east side of Currant Creek and following it to the dam. At the dam, follow the road almost all the way around the reservoir to find the guard station near the southwest end of the lake. Check in with the camp host at Currant Creek Campground.
