The Sand Flats Recreation Area Group Campsites offer six reservable sites spread across two campgrounds: Datura (sites A, B, C, and D) and Echo (sites E-1 and E-10). Each site accommodates up to 16 people with varying parking capacities. Datura A, B, D, and E-1 can fit six passenger cars, two to three RVs, or two to three trucks with trailers, while Datura C and E-10 have smaller lots for four cars or one RV and one trailer. Maximum vehicle length is 25 feet. The sites are set among dramatic slickrock formations with sweeping views of sandstone domes, canyons, and mesas, backed by the 13,000-foot La Sal Mountains. Amenities include shade structures, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site, with vault toilets nearby. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. Firewood gathering is prohibited; bring your own or purchase in Moab. Located just five miles from downtown Moab, the area provides direct access to the legendary Slickrock Bike Trail and nearly 40 miles of OHV trails. Generator hours run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The high desert environment brings extreme summer temperatures (mid-90s to 105°F+ from mid-May through mid-September) and gusty winds year-round.

Directions

From Highway 191 in Moab, turn east onto 400 East at the stoplight with the gas station. Continue 0.5 miles, then turn right onto Mill Creek Drive. At the three-way stop, go straight onto Sand Flats Road and continue 2 miles to the Sand Flats Entrance Station. Datura A and B are 1 mile past the entrance station on the right. Datura C and D are 1.5 miles past the entrance at the Fins and Things staging area. Echo E-1 and E-10 are 2 miles past the entrance station in Echo Campground.
