About
Salamander Dispersed Area sits along the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway in American Fork Canyon, approximately 9.3 miles up UT-92 near mile marker 17. This primitive camping area connects to the Salamander Flat Trail, which leads to the Timpooneke trailhead and provides access to Mount Timpanogos wilderness hiking. The trail crosses a stream at the start and passes through large stands of fir trees. As a dispersed camping area, amenities are minimal. Vault restrooms are available, but there is no potable water on site. Campers must bring their own drinking water. Horses and pack animals are permitted but must use certified weed-free hay, and riders are responsible for cleaning up after their animals. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed at all times. A day-use pass is required and covers overnight camping. Passes cost $10 for 3 days, $20 for 7 days, or $60 for an annual pass. Interagency America the Beautiful passes are also accepted. Digital passes can be purchased through Recreation.gov.
