About
Price Canyon Recreation Area is a Bureau of Land Management campground located 12 miles north of Price, Utah, perched at 7,500 feet elevation on a ridge above Price Canyon. The site provides a cool summer retreat among ponderosa pines, offering respite from the desert heat below. The campground features 12 large, well-spaced campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Three group picnic areas can be reserved by calling the Price Field Office.
The recreation area is perhaps best known for the Bristlecone Ridge trail, a 3.1-mile hiking route that begins in the north campground loop. This trail passes through areas significantly impacted by the 2021 Bear Fire, which destroyed most of the ancient bristlecone pines. Post-fire, the open grasslands have transformed into wildflower meadows during summer months, though some portions of the forest remain intact. The entrance road and scenic overlook are accessible by automobile, providing excellent views of the rugged canyon country without hiking.
Two bouldering areas are located along the road up to the campground, attracting climbers. Day use areas are available at each campground section. The access road is steep and narrow with tight switchbacks, making it unsuitable for large RVs; total vehicle length (truck plus trailer) should not exceed 40 feet. No potable water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. The overnight camping fee is $15 per site, with a 14-day stay limit.
