Horsethief Group Sites

Closed — Closed for the season. Group sites are typically reservable from mid-February through early December.

About

Horsethief Group Sites consists of five reservable group campsites located on a high mesa west of Moab, Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Group Site #39 is situated in the main Horsethief Campground, while Group Sites A, B, C, and D are in an adjacent area designed specifically for tent and van camping. The sites accommodate groups of 10-20 people with a maximum of 6 sedans, trucks, or vans. RVs, trailers, and campers are not permitted at these group sites. Tucked among pinyon and juniper trees at 5,500 feet elevation, the campground offers open vistas with excellent sunrise and sunset views. Each group site features a shade shelter, picnic tables, fire rings with grates, and access to nearby vault toilets. Group Site A is the most accessible, featuring concrete pathways, accessible vault toilets, a shade structure with accessible picnic tables, accessible grill and fire pit, and elevated tent pads. The location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, with numerous mountain bike trails and four-wheel drive roads nearby, including the popular Gemini Bridges Road. Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park are within 15 minutes, making this a popular staging area for groups tackling the White Rim trail. Arches National Park is also accessible, and the town of Moab, 25 minutes away, provides dining, shopping, and tour services. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Moab, drive 9 miles north on Highway 191, then turn west on Highway 313. Drive 12 miles, turn right onto the short entrance road to the campground.
