Mill Canyon Dispersed Area is a primitive camping zone in American Fork Canyon, managed by the Pleasant Grove Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The area is situated in a scenic mountain setting near several established campgrounds and trailheads, including the 3-mile Mill Canyon Trail. This dispersed camping area is popular with climbers, hikers, and those seeking a more remote camping experience away from developed campgrounds. As a dispersed camping area, there are no developed facilities, amenities, or services. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, bringing all necessary supplies including water, and must pack out all trash. The area follows standard Forest Service dispersed camping regulations, requiring camping to be a certain distance from roads, trails, and water sources. The proximity to American Fork Canyon's recreational opportunities, including Timpanogos Cave National Monument and numerous hiking and climbing areas, makes this a convenient base for outdoor enthusiasts. The area experiences seasonal closures due to winter snow, typically closing in November and remaining inaccessible until late spring or early summer when snow clears and gates reopen. During the open season, the area operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or fees for dispersed camping.

Directions

Take I-15 to exit 272 (800 North) in Orem and follow SR 50 east through Orem to US 189. Continue on US 189 through Provo Canyon to the end of Deer Creek Reservoir. Turn left (north) onto SR 113, cross the railroad tracks, then turn left on Tate Lane and right onto Stringtown Road. Head left on Cascade Springs Road; the trailhead and parking lot will be on the right in about a mile.
