About

Rainbow Park Campground sits at the confluence of scenery and solitude in the Utah portion of Dinosaur National Monument. The four primitive sites are nestled along the banks of the Green River near the Rainbow Park Boat Ramp, at the head of Split Mountain Canyon. Campers enjoy views of dramatic geologic features including the Mitten Park Fault, making it a destination for those seeking both natural beauty and remoteness. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Each site accommodates up to 8 people and 2 vehicles, with picnic tables and fire pits provided. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring all drinking water. Pack out all trash and food waste. Small RVs and truck-top campers up to 15 feet are permitted, though the access road is rugged and unsuitable for larger rigs. The 28-mile drive from the Quarry Visitor Center traverses unpaved roads that require a high-clearance vehicle and become completely impassable when wet. There is no winter road maintenance. The campground serves as a popular staging point for rafters on the Green River through Split Mountain Canyon.

Directions

From the Quarry Visitor Center, drive south on State Road 149 for 4 miles. Turn right onto Brush Creek Road and follow for 5 miles. Turn right at the fork following signs to Island Park for 4 miles. Turn right onto Island Park Road and follow for 12 miles to reach Rainbow Park Campground. Total distance is 28 miles on rugged dirt roads requiring high-clearance vehicle.
