About
Rainbow Park Campground is a remote, primitive camping area located on the Green River at the head of Split Mountain Canyon in the Utah portion of Dinosaur National Monument. The campground sits 28 miles from the Quarry Visitor Center and is accessed via a challenging dirt road that demands high-clearance vehicles and becomes completely impassable when wet.
The four first-come, first-served sites provide a rugged camping experience with basic amenities including vault toilets, fire grates, and picnic tables. No water is available, so campers must bring all water needed for drinking, cooking, and washing. The campground is situated near the Rainbow Park boat ramp, a popular put-in point for whitewater rafting trips through Split Mountain Canyon on the Green River.
Visitors are rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding geology, including the prominent Mitten Park Fault. The campground can accommodate small RVs and truck-top campers up to 15 feet, though the rough access road limits practical use to high-clearance vehicles and experienced backcountry travelers. While open year-round, winter access is particularly challenging as the unpaved road receives no winter maintenance.
