About
Ponderosa Group Campground is a single-site group facility located on a secluded, forested hillside above Highway 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) at 7,400 feet in the Uinta Mountains. The site accommodates up to 100 people and features large picnic tables, campfire circles, and vault toilets. Ponderosa pines tower over the campground, providing shade, while sagebrush and summer wildflowers dot the surrounding landscape. The campground is well-positioned for recreation along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. The Lower Provo River runs below the site and across the highway, offering good trout fishing. Numerous hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails are nearby, including Yellow Pine, North Fork, and Shingle Creek Trails. The High Uintas Wilderness can be accessed from several trailheads along the byway. Note that there is no potable water at this site and trash is pack-it-out. The dirt access road is short but steep and rough, making it unsuitable for larger RVs or trailers. Reservations are required at least 5 days in advance with a 2-night minimum on weekends and 3-night minimum on holiday weekends.
Directions
From Kamas, Utah, take Highway 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) north for 5.7 miles. Watch for the sign and dirt road to the campground on your left.
