About
Ponderosa Group Campground is positioned at 7,400 feet elevation along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The campground occupies a secluded, forested hillside above Highway 150, shaded by towering ponderosa pines with sagebrush and summer wildflowers dotting the landscape. The site is well-suited for group camping activities in a mountain forest setting. The location provides convenient access to numerous recreational opportunities. Yellow Pine, North Fork, and Shingle Creek trails all begin nearby, offering hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding through the Uinta Mountains. Off-road vehicle trails are available in the vicinity. The Lower Provo River runs below the campground across Highway 150, providing good trout fishing opportunities. The Mirror Lake Scenic Byway leads to numerous high alpine lakes and streams, with access points to the High Uintas Wilderness located along the route.
Directions
From Kamas, take Highway 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) east for 5.7 miles. Watch for the campground sign and dirt road on the left. From Salt Lake City, take I-80 east to Exit 146, then Highway 40 south to Highway 32 north. Turn right onto Highway 150 in Kamas and continue 5.7 miles.
