About

South Iron Springs is part of the Iron Springs Group campground located approximately five miles off US Highway 191 via Forest Road 018/Red Cloud Loop in Ashley National Forest. At 9,200 feet elevation, the campground sits at the edge of a grassy meadow bordered by shady pines and aspens, with sagebrush and summer wildflowers dotting the surrounding landscape. The area provides excellent access to nearby recreational opportunities including East Park and Oaks Park Reservoirs, both stocked with rainbow trout and located less than 10 miles away. The campground consists of two group sites, each capable of accommodating up to 50 people with a maximum of 50 vehicles. Sites feature vault toilets, picnic tables, and campfire rings, with large gravel pull-through parking areas that can handle trailers and RVs up to 45 feet in length. Potable water availability varies by season and is typically available from mid-May through mid-September when the campground is not winterized. Red Cloud Loop offers scenic driving on a maintained dirt road with miles of trails for ATVs, hikers, and mountain bikers leading to numerous reservoirs, lakes, overlooks, and historic sites. Motorized traffic is limited to signed routes designated on the Ashley National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map.
