About

Trial Lake Campground is situated on the shores of Trial Lake at 9,500 feet elevation, accessible via the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway through the Uinta Mountains. The campground contains 60 campsites total, including 59 single sites and 1 double site, all set within a dense forest of Engelmann spruce and white fir that provides ample shade. Summer wildflowers dot the landscape, and summer temperatures typically range from 65-75 degrees during the day to 40-50 degrees at night. Trial Lake offers excellent fishing for rainbow trout, as well as canoeing and kayaking opportunities. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding High Uintas region. Popular trailheads for Crystal Lake and Bald Mountain are located approximately one mile away at Washington Lake Campground. The Mirror Lake Scenic Byway provides access to numerous high alpine lakes and streams, countless trails, and breathtaking scenic viewpoints throughout the area. The campground enforces a 7-day stay limit and prohibits motorized boats and ATVs. Each campsite includes picnic and utility tables, tent pads, and campfire rings with grills. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov and are recommended, as sites must be reserved at least five days in advance during the operating season.

Directions

From Salt Lake City, take I-80 east for 30 miles to Exit 146 for Highway 40. Go south on Highway 40 for approximately 13 miles and turn left onto UT Highway 32. Stay on UT-32 for 16 miles through Francis. Turn right onto Highway 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) in Kamas and travel 25 miles to the campground.
