About
Mill Hollow Guard Station offers a unique opportunity to stay in a historic Forest Service cabin while supporting the ongoing maintenance and preservation of these important structures. Located at 8,800 feet elevation next to Mill Hollow Reservoir in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the cabin is situated in a dense forest of fir, lodgepole pine, and aspen where wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant.
The guard station accommodates up to 8 people with 2 bedrooms containing queen beds. Modern amenities include a fully equipped kitchen with pots and pans provided, running water, a shower, flush toilet, wood stove for heat, and propane lights and appliances. Guests must bring their own linens, dishes, silverware, cups, and glasses. The bathroom and main gathering area with sofas and chairs are located on the main floor.
Recreational opportunities abound with the small Mill Hollow Reservoir offering rainbow and albino rainbow trout fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The 1-mile Lakeshore Trail and 2-mile Mill Hollow Trail provide excellent hiking. Soapstone Basin, only 8 miles north, features designated trails for off-road vehicles and mountain bikes, plus excellent birding. Check-in and check-out is handled through the camp host at the nearby Mill Hollow Campground.
