About
Boundary Creek Yurt sits at 9,550 feet in the High Uintas of Utah, offering experienced backcountry skiers and snowshoers access to open slopes ascending to nearly 11,000 feet. As the final and most remote yurt in the Bear River Outdoor Recreation Alliance system, it requires a 6.5-mile approach from the Lily Lake Touring Area near Evanston, Wyoming. The unmarked trail beyond Ridge Yurt is marked only with blue diamonds and is not groomed, often requiring trail-breaking after fresh snow.
The 16-foot yurt accommodates 4-6 people on bunks and includes a wood-burning stove with a supply of firewood for heating, plus a white gas cooking stove for meal preparation. Unlike the lower yurts in the system, Boundary Creek has no propane. This is a carry-in, carry-out facility with no potable water; guests must filter stream water or melt snow.
BRORA operates this yurt in cooperation with the USFS and Boy Scouts of America. Reservations require a $20 BRORA membership and are made through the Evanston Recreation Center. Winter reservations open the last Monday of October. Due to the advanced skills and conditioning required for access, this yurt is recommended only for experienced backcountry travelers with avalanche awareness training.
