About

Rock Canyon Campground occupies an isolated, forested setting high above Utah Valley on Squaw Peak Road at 6,500 feet elevation. Dense stands of maple, scrub oak, and fir provide plentiful shade, while grassy meadows and wildflowers dot the surrounding terrain. A scenic turnout just before the campground offers stunning views of Rock Canyon and glimpses of Utah Valley below. The campground features four group sites named after U.S. Forest Service historical figures: Gifford Pinchot, Aldo Leopold, Albert F. Potter, and Vivian West. Each site includes picnic tables and a campfire circle; some have serving tables. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. Rock Canyon Trail begins directly in the campground, providing excellent hiking and mountain biking. The Squaw Peak Trail to the summit is accessible just outside the campground. Rock Canyon is renowned among climbers, with hundreds of routes across the canyon walls. The campground operates seasonally from late May through late September and requires advance reservations through Recreation.gov.
