About
Maple Canyon Campground is nestled among thick groves of maples below towering conglomerate walls in the Manti-La Sal National Forest, just 3 miles from Freedom, Utah. The canyon contains over 40 cliffs ranging from 30 to 300 feet in height, with more than 140 bolted climbing routes attracting climbers from around the world. Routes range from beginner-friendly 5.4 to expert-level 5.14, including access to the famous Pipe Dream tunnel formation. The campground sits at 6,700 feet elevation and includes one group site accommodating up to 25 people, several single-family sites, and four walk-in tent sites. Sites 1-16 have picnic tables and fire rings, while sites A-G have fire rings only. Sites 2, 3, 4, and 12 require carrying gear a short distance from the parking area. Vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water; campers must bring their own supply. Beyond climbing, three steep scenic loop trails (Left Fork, Middle Fork, and Right Fork, each 3-5 miles) provide excellent hiking with panoramic views east into Sanpete Valley and the Wasatch Plateau. The canyon also offers opportunities for biking and horseback riding. Roads and parking spurs are gravel throughout.
