About

Maple Canyon Campground is internationally known among rock climbers for its unique conglomerate rock formations and exceptional climbing opportunities. The campground sits at 6,700 feet elevation, nestled between towering rock walls in a canyon filled with thick groves of maple trees. Over 140 bolted routes attract climbers from around the world, with climbing grades ranging from beginner-friendly 5.4 to expert-level 5.14. The canyon features more than 40 cliffs ranging in height from 30 to 300 feet, including the famous Pipe Dream tunnel formation. The campground offers 16 single family sites with picnic tables and fire rings, 4 walk-to tent sites (A-G) with fire rings only, and one group site accommodating up to 25 people. Sites 2, 3, 4, and 12 require campers to carry gear a short distance from the parking area. Roads and parking spurs are gravel. No water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. Three steep scenic loop trails provide excellent hiking, biking, and horseback riding opportunities while accessing many climbing sites. The Left Fork, Middle Fork, and Right Fork trails create 3 to 5-mile loops with panoramic views east into Sanpete Valley and the Wasatch Plateau. The canyon supports diverse wildlife in this unique ecosystem where conglomerate geology creates dramatic landscapes.

Directions

From Fountain Green, head south on West Side Road for 7 miles to Freedom Road in Freedom. Turn right onto Freedom Road and follow Maple Canyon signs. Travel 3 miles northeast of Freedom to the campground. From Moroni, go 9 miles west following Maple Canyon signs.
