Split Mountain Group Campground
Open with flush toilets and drinking water available. Reservations through Recreation.gov are required during the main season (approximately mid-April through early October). Off-season, when Green River Campground closes, Split Mountain operates first-come, first-served with vault toilet only and no water.
About
Split Mountain Group Campground occupies a scenic bench along the Green River at the base of Split Mountain in Dinosaur National Monument. The highly eroded mountain towers over the campground, providing dramatic views. The location is ideal for river-oriented recreation, sitting adjacent to the Split Mountain Boat Ramp where rafters and boaters conclude their journeys through the monument's canyons on the Green River. The campground offers four group sites, each with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill, accommodating up to 25 people and 6 vehicles. Fremont Cottonwood trees and sagebrush dot the landscape, providing limited but welcome shade in the high desert environment. Flush toilets and drinking water are available during the main season from early April through early October. During the off-season, a vault toilet remains available but water is shut off. The Quarry Exhibit Hall, where visitors can view over 1,500 dinosaur fossils still embedded in rock, lies just 5 miles away via Cub Creek Road. This is black bear country, and proper food storage is required. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, so campers should prepare accordingly.
Directions
From Jensen, Utah, take Utah State Route 149 north for approximately 12 miles. The campground is about 4 miles east of the Quarry Visitor Center along Cub Creek Road.
