About

Panguitch Lake Campground is located 14 miles southwest of Panguitch, Utah, in Dixie National Forest on the Colorado Plateau at 8,400 feet elevation. The campground is split into two sections on either side of Highway 143, with the larger north side featuring paved roads and parking spurs, single and double campsites, and three group sites. The south side is reserved for tent camping only and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. The campground sits on a hillside covered with ponderosa pines, about a quarter-mile above Panguitch Lake. The name 'Panguitch' derives from the Paiute word meaning 'big fish,' and the lake lives up to its name, producing some of Utah's largest rainbow trout annually. Anglers also catch brook, cutthroat, and brown trout. Two public boat ramps are available, one on the south shore and another at Wildlife Point on the north shore. The Markagunt OHV trail system at Panguitch Lake offers 300 miles of routes and trails for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, though OHVs are not permitted in the campground itself and must be trailered. Other activities include canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and hunting. The campground is within 14 miles of Cedar Breaks National Monument and 30 minutes from Bryce Canyon National Park. Deer and elk are frequently spotted in the area.
