About
Smithfield Campground sits in Smithfield Canyon, 12.4 miles northeast of Logan, Utah, at an elevation of 5,500 feet within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This small, well-maintained campground features 6 single campsites and 1 group day-use area, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available on-site, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring an adequate supply.
The campground serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring the surrounding wilderness. Two miles up the road, the Smithfield Canyon trailhead provides access to the Mount Naomi Wilderness, with Trail 007 connecting to Tony Grove Lake on the far side. Activities include fishing in Summit Creek, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. A stock loading ramp is available at the trailhead parking lot for equestrians.
Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with glacier lilies blooming from April through July and frequent sightings of birds, deer, and elk. This is bear country, so proper food storage is required.
Directions
From Main Street (US-91) in Logan, UT, travel north approximately 7.4 miles to 400 N in Smithfield. Turn east onto 400 N, which becomes Canyon Road, and travel 4.9 miles to the campground.
