About
Smithfield Campground is located in Smithfield Canyon within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, 12.4 miles northeast of Logan, Utah at an elevation of 5,500 feet. This small, established campground offers 6 single campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, plus one group day-use site that accommodates up to 40 people. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply.
The setting features abundant wildflowers including glacier lilies from April through July, with opportunities to observe birds, small critters, and occasionally elk and deer. Smithfield Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Mount Naomi Wilderness, with the Smithfield Canyon trailhead located just two miles up the road. The trailhead includes a stock loading ramp and provides access to Trail 007, which leads to Tony Grove Lake on the opposite side of the wilderness. Activities include fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
The campground operates seasonally from May through September with a 7-day stay limit. Single sites cost $22 per night and accommodate up to 8 people and one vehicle per site. Extra vehicles are $10, and day-use is $10. A 2-night minimum stay applies on weekends and 3-night minimum on holiday weekends. Gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m., with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov.
