About
Rocky Peak Campground is located within Three Peaks Recreation Area, one of Cedar City's largest designated recreation areas. Established as a Special Recreation Management Area in 2006, this BLM-managed campground sits at 5,938 feet elevation, approximately 10 miles from Cedar City. The campground is nestled in a small pinyon-juniper forest where granite boulders from ancient volcanic activity are scattered throughout the landscape, with many sites offering views of the Hurricane Cliffs. The campground serves as an ideal basecamp for outdoor recreation. Mountain biking and hiking trails are accessible directly from camp, while the broader Three Peaks Recreation Area offers specialized trailheads for equestrian use and OHV riding. Beyond traditional camping activities, visitors can enjoy two disc golf courses, a shooting range, an RC car track, a paintball complex, and a model airplane runway. The proximity to Cedar City provides easy access to cultural attractions including the Southern Utah Museum of Art and the Shakespeare Festival, while Zion National Park is just over an hour away and Bryce Canyon National Park approximately 1.5 hours distant. The campground includes both individual and group sites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Weather varies seasonally, with spring and fall bringing cool temperatures that can approach or drop below freezing at night, while summer highs typically reach 90-95°F.
Directions
From Cedar City, take Main Street (UT-130) north and take the third exit in the roundabout onto Midvalley Road. After 6 miles on Midvalley Road, continue straight and follow the road through Three Peaks Recreation Area. The campground is on the left shortly after the road transitions from pavement to dirt.
