About
White House Campground is located approximately 43 miles east of Kanab, Utah, at the end of Monument Road 751. The campground sits in a broad valley between the Paria River and scenic white-grey sandstone buttes, offering a remote desert camping experience within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
Originally constructed in the 1970s and reconstructed between 2017-2019, the campground features 7 car camping sites with parking and 5 walk-in tent camping sites. All sites are first-come, first-served and cannot be reserved in advance. Payment is made via a mobile Scan & Pay system using the Recreation.gov app, which works even without cell service. The campground is compact with drive-through loops and a flat, firm surface made of compacted road base.
The campground has been primarily used by hikers and backpackers as a staging area for trips into the adjacent Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. Each campsite includes a fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad. Vault toilets are located at the campground entrance. Drinking water and trash disposal are not available at the campground itself but can be accessed at the Paria Contact Station at the northern end of the access road. The area provides outstanding opportunities for sightseeing, photography, hiking, and backpacking in the surrounding desert landscape.
