About
Carter Military Trail Yurt sits on a scenic plateau high in northeastern Utah's Uinta Mountains within the Ashley National Forest. At roughly 9,800 feet elevation, the yurt is surrounded by mixed pine forest with abundant wildlife and summer wildflowers. The facility provides primitive overnight accommodations from approximately June through October, with vehicle access dependent on weather and snow conditions. The yurt measures approximately 224 square feet and accommodates up to six guests. Inside you'll find a wood burning stove for heat, a heavy-duty propane case stove for cooking, a portable propane Coleman lantern, folding table and chairs, and one bunk bed with full mattresses. No linens, bedding, or pillows are provided. An outdoor vault toilet serves the facility. There is no running water, electricity, or indoor plumbing; guests must bring their own water supply along with cookware, silverware, and personal amenities. The area provides access to numerous recreational opportunities including the historic Carter Military Trail, which once served as a military supply road from the Oregon Trail over the Uinta Mountains. The nearby Highline Trail and various scenic backways offer hiking, mountain biking, and OHV routes to destinations like Long Park, East Park Reservoir, and Lily Pad Lake. Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is also accessible for fishing and water activities.
